YoU cAn HoLd GoLd In YoUr HaNd

Why’s that a bad thing lol

I mean it’s not. But it was pretty telling when people fleeing the Ukraine were getting booked for smuggling a suitcase full of cash and gold

Depends upon the direction you think the world is headed.

Gold has always historically been the first seized asset from citizens.

All Americans were required to turn in their gold on or before May 1, 1933 to the Federal Reserve in return for $20.67 of paper money per troy ounce. Americans who did not turn in their gold were subject to arrest on criminal charges and faced up to 10 years in federal prison.

Bitcoin can be banned/outlawed, as well.

Being KYC’d, all a politician has to do is go to an exchange and order them to give a list of clients.

There are plenty of ways to make Bitcoin more private.

Just using lightning is already a big help for privacy. It’s not impossible to find out who you are, but if Bitcoin is illegal tomorrow, the feds are going to have a very hard time finding even a few of us.

There are also plenty of p2p exchanges that don’t require KYC, and you can use a VPN on top of that. I assume if you’re buying Monero, you’re already following these precautions.

There are a few advantages to Bitcoin over Monero for cypherpunks though.

First, as others have said, you’re not going to build a global economy with Monero. If Bitcoin is considered the “currency of criminals”, Monero definitely has this reputation.

Which brings me to my second point. We know the governments are the biggest criminal organizations in the world.

If there is no government, Bitcoin’s privacy concerns are not a huge deal. Since we have governments, do we really want them to fund their criminal enterprises with Monero? At least with Bitcoin, and their technological incompetence, we will have an audit of every transaction they make.

If the government does make Bitcoin illegal, you can expect it to work like their war on drugs. Prices will skyrocket, more people will use it than ever before, and the police will find a few wallets and pretend they are relevant 😂

This can happen to Bitcoin, as well 🤔

It’s not the worse thing, but it’s not a reason why gold is superior to Bitcoin.

Bitcoin is superior because you can’t hold it in your hand. Nobody can burn down your house and take it, and it can travel anywhere in the world at the speed of light.

The Aztecs called Peter… they want their gold back.
