The overworld being so big just makes the problem even worse for me, and again, the Xenoblade games also have giant worlds, yet never pull that shit (except small sections in 3, which pissed me off).

Also, I was never a big fan of pre-Galaxy Mario soundtracks - the 2D platformers had just okay music, Mario 64 had a couple of genuinely great songs, but the rest was nothing special, Sunshine had good, but not great music. The Galaxy games are the only mainline Mario platformers with genuinely amazing soundtracks IMO. 3D World's soundtrack is quite good as well, if maybe a bit overrated.

Meanwhile, music has long been one of Zelda's selling points, hell, ever since OoT musical instruments and songs have enjoyed significant plot relevance. So even if I thought BotW and Odyssey handled music equally badly (which I don't, I think BotW does it far worse), it would have been a bigger problem in BotW because of my expectations as a Zelda fan since the N64 days.
