Initially no visible error when setting and entering the pin. No UI indication of anything happening.

I apparently entered a 4 digit pin as it didn't indicate a requirement and showed no error. Then a 5 digit pin.

Whether successful or not, both setting a pin and trying to guess what my pin was has sometimes led to the pin modal disappearing. Now it's 'incorrect pin' every time.
