ok, just for giggles & shits, I went to the Google machine to ask it what a new bitcoiner should use to buy Bitcoin. 🤣

This is why I don't like finance bro land. Or Google. or people who don't DYOR.

I think the fundamental problem here is/was that folks who are new to bitcoin will always make the same mistake until this changes. That mistake is they will see this type of stuff (aka "the choices available") and mistakenly equate "buying bitcoin" with "trading" and, therefore, TradFi.

The cure for this is to create a way to those new to bitcoin to be able to obtain it sans bullshit, no shitcoining, no talk of "trading and investing" but to somehow designate this this is different and requires personal responsibility. Maybe someone has done this already and the Google machine doesn't show it?

why do we care? because we're all going to have to deal with this hiccup on the path to bitcoin for friends and family. that's if they even have the cajones to tell us, "Hey, I bought bitcoin from Coinbase" or want to, or whatever. Would be cool to have a decent answer when they ask and they're starting to ask.

TL;DR: Can't save 'em all. But I think this is wrong. Unethical. People will not DYOR because they trust Google, and finance bros, and don't know to DYOR in the first place.

Anyway, I present to you what normies are led to by searching how to buy bitcoin while they're at Knowledge Zero 👇

I just tried this on my phone. I asked "where to buy Bitcoin". It actually gave me links to Canadian exchanges (2 I've used amongst them), some US options that work here, plus the addresses of every Bitcoin ATM in my city. Better results than I expected actually.

I wonder if mine is super generic since I’m using vpn and turned off the google tracking…

Yeah this is my normie phone 😂

I was the most surprised about the BTC ATM listings. There's way more than I thought!

I didn’t even think of those!

Where do you buy your bitcoin?

The places I understand that she doesn't... the point is, Coinbase is what she found on her own.

Where though?

I'm privacy-minded enough not to put that online, nor which banks I use.

I use strike and Coinbase :)

This has really made me think about how to explain all this to someone new to bitcoin. 🤯

I store btc using a ledger, at some point I want to be comfortable enough to use sparrow wallet but I’m afraid of losing access to my stack and haven’t messed with it yet.

I don't even think I can tell you how many wallets I've tried 😂 I'm like a wallet whore or something
