Do at least two of them started accepting bitcoin direct from onchain or lighting ? Or it was just a courtesy show of interest in the end ?

I mean, if I am going to TJ Max, what do you suggest I do to increase Bitcoin adoption while I am there? Or should I just use fiat?

You ask if they accept bitcoin, if they don't then you leave, or just pay in cash/fiat and leave. You're more likely to augment their interest naturally asking than trying hard to look cool for going extra lenghts to spend it your bitcoin there.
