i am going to move off this topic because it is really not my business—but yesterday i was sitting in a park, reading a Murakami. nearby me sat a circle of undergrads. there was a guy with a bunch of girls — he ignored the group’s conversation and was loudly talking on his phone the whole time — what job suggestions his mother was sending him, how he wants to be married in 5-6 years, how this friend, then this one and this other would be in Israel this summer…like total non-awareness that it is a war region and might be potentially dangerous, just chatting as if it is a regular summer holiday spot. i mean: ok. next day main airport almost gets bombed & a bunch of international airlines won’t fly there for a few days if not a week. people are really living in their bubbles i guess or maybe i must be missing something.
