Haha the explainer of #paid #relays on relay.exchange is hilarious and perfect.

"Another way to think of this is the cesspool vs swimming pool.
You can choose to swim around in a pool of excrement where everyone has access to everyone else’s attention and are constantly flinging poo at each other because it’s easy to do, only paying occassionally to exist for some clean fun behind a paywall -OR- You can choose to pay someone to keep the pool clean and steward who comes in in the first place, who wants to keep pool guests happy and will act to remove anyone who is stupid enough to poo in the pool.
Twitter for example is not sufficiently incentivised to keep a clean pool, they allow free entry and have rules which are consistently broken without punishment to bad actors whilst good actors are ejected because they had a different point of view to the lifeguards.
Reddit decided to let neckbeards volunteer to be the lifeguards even though they have no life of their own to guard and whose favourite people are those who poo in pools for fun.
Nostr has paid bouncers guarding the pool, they’ll let you in for a fee and bounce you if you poo in the pool and negatively effect the other users sharing that space."
