Clients with algorithms are bad…

Even if you choose the algo…

When you choose censorship you do not get to see the real world for what it is…

You only see what you want…

Thus your vision of the world becomes distorted…

Leading to a disconnection from the real world…

… or worse you were shown what someone else wanted…

Your vision of the world is what someone else wants you to believe…

This is called brainwashing…

You're assuming people are using only one client.

Or even one use zap.stream zap.cooking nostr.build

I assume nothing as I assume I’m a know it all

😂

I'm just imaginjng someone using a sports app, where the data set is limited to sportsy-things and the client is designed to maximize the sports information transmitted and the conversation is about sportsy stuff.

A sports app would probably be used in addition to Amethyst or Nostrudel or whatnot, and not instead of it.

Same with a recipe app, hiking app, or movie rating app.

Most definitely

I actually agree with what you wrote, on a different level. I understand the value added by having default relays or a standard filter, in an OtherStuff client. But I would prefer a client that allowed me to adjust both.

If I prefer my Biblestr show the Quran or Constitutional Law, that's my own business. Anything else is an attempt to limit access to information.

Another example would be a sports app that didn't include chess and darts. The app designers do not get to dictate what a "sport" is.

We have to own our own feed.

I think designing an app to be flexible is the only way to limit the forking of it. Nobody should get frustrated by the data they're being shown.

These are should be apps or relays? 🤔

Apps with layer 2 relays as default relays.

I have a relay that doesn't contain any Kind 01 notes, for instance, to be used for git events, wiki pages, and eBooks.

So... We should get rid of follower-based feeds, since that is essentially a custom algo?

The world is too big. That is why Nostr doesn't really have a Global state. No one can have EVERYTHING in their feed. It's too much.

We have to curate what we want to see in some way. What we must absolutely fight against is having someone else dictate what we get to see and what we don't. That means we ought to have optionality when it comes to algorithms, and be able to customize our feed to show what we want to see.

Does this mean we likely become disconnected from those outside our bubble? Absolutely, it does. But only if that is what we want our feed to be.

This…

"What we must absolutely fight against is having someone else dictate what we get to see and what we don't."
