The lightning network has the potential to grow into a massive financial network. An interconnected web of individuals sending payments and providing liquidity in the most efficient manner possible. A bitcoin native yield without counterpart risk is such a massive idea it is hard to say what it will evolve to look. like with things like fedi-mints and ecash built on top I believe it will be extremely rare to send an actual base layer transaction and many people will never even interact with the lightning network.
