More choices will become available and improved in quality over time, even with the shit regulations, and much moreso without them. Regulation-resistant tech like open source computer architectures will make the little guy's products easier to produce, and that means open source developers and small companies can actually focus on quality and ease of use, in the future.

more choices are key. we need a viable third or even fourth player to enter the mobile market and build both hardware and software in the open.

There was the FXTech Pro 1 and Pro 1 X, which I paid for but never received because China shut it down.

and as far as software the de-googled Android and also Android alternatives are both getting incredibly good.

I think the Murena Fairphone 5 would fit the bill. It's no Pixel 8 or iPhone 15, bit it's viable and seamless with the integration of Murena email and cloud.
