Just a reminder for users to adjust theire inbox/outbox relays. I suggest setting only 2 to 4 relyas
Discussion
I haven't seen any evidence removing write relays helps users, I don't get how it would
Reducing the number of relays you're using might not help you directly, but it makes it much easier for others to find your events and publish events that mention you to the right relays.
If you have a long list of relays, other users can't realistically connect to all of them. Clients usually need to fetch a lot of events and send many notifications for many users, not just you. So most clients only look at the first 2 to 4 relays you’ve configured, sometimes even fewer.
There are also many users who have way too many relays configured, and the first few relays in their list are actually broken or unreachable. This suggestion is mainly meant to remind those users.
Maybe it needs more realistic numbers
Of course, relay configuration will always be broken anyway as long as nostr apps have no p2p data verification over Tor or anything like that
Since I don't know what strategies other clients use, I can’t give a precise number. The suggestion of 2–4 comes from the NIP.
If you already understand the role of each relay very well, you can keep your current setup, it's really not a big deal. The prompt is mainly for users who had randomly added a bunch of relays without much thought.
The fact that your notifications dropped after you reduced your relay list actually proves the point: most clients won’t send events mentioning you to all of your read relays.
