If you send (or receive) a Lightning payment that is greater than your send (or receive) limit of 1 channel, is/can that payment be split across multiple channels? And does this also count for all nodes in between? #asknostr

Yes, it's called multi path payment

Do you have to set up something for that in your node, or does that happen automatically? Do you have a good article on that?

I don't know for sure, but I believe all modern node implementations will do that automatically for you. I don't have any articles on that, I remember Rene Pickhardt talking about it in a Podcast or on Twitter. But you seem to have found some stuff already.

See my other reply.

Ok, I found a few myself thanks to the designation “multi path payment”. I have been using Lightning for a while but am not fully on board with the tech yet. Thanks, I will definitely look into this further. ty

No, multi path allows routing across different paths (so, different intermediate channels), but the sender uses only one channel. As far as I'm aware there is no way to use the capacity in multiple channels to effect a payment, atomically. You would have to make multiple payments.
