Hi all!

My first week using Nostr.

Amethyst is slow for me today. I have been having better luck with Snort.social on my PC at home. However, when I'm away from my PC I'm trying to communicate with my Amethyst client.

Is it normal for feeds to load slow? Internet connection is not the problem.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi. It depends on lots of factors... How many relays do you have? Are they showing as connected ?

I'm actually not sure. Sorry to be such a newbie. I'll go figure that out.

I read up on Nostr before I started using it. It's a steep learning curve for me.

I'll update this note as I figure it out.

Thank you for reaching out.

BTW, in case you need it:

Hello and #welcome to #Nostr 🤙

Check out this post that has all the basic steps to help you get started: http://lnshort.it/nostr-welcome/

Nostr is still pretty new so nothing is really "normal" yet.

I don't know for sure, but

I suspect that there are a lot of websocket connections going on behind the scenes and if you have spotty service those connections need to be renegotiated and reopened which is likely what creates a sluggish experience.

And I also suspect that the common default relays the everyone uses are just getting hammered with all the new users and activity.

Consider running your own relay. You can do it for as little as $5/month with digitalocean plus the cost of a domain name.

There are plenty of tutorials online on how to do it

It's sluggish at first while it builds its database. After that it's useable. I would advise you not to use Android's back button; use the home button to jump back to your feed after interacting with a post, that's much faster. Also try not to click into everyone's profile; the app will grind to a halt as it tries to retrieve all of that user's posts.

Remember, it's all relatively new and unpolished.

Thanks for the advice!
