I think a lot of people I know like the idea, but aren't motivated to take part if they are the only one in their social network on the protocol, there are possibly only a handful of people in my entire country using nostr at this stage. I feel people need a reason to change, and nostr is acting as an important solution to an unrecognised problem.

I can see why. The feeling of emptiness and loneliness when you don't have your regular social circle can be difficult to deal with. #nostr is really niche right now.
There are some efforts with things like #plebchain and #grownostr to improve this, ultimately it will take time.
Sad irony that I found it easy to delete my traditional social media accounts and move over here because I never really spent much time on social media, now I feel I need to be more of a content creator to help nostr grow 🙈
