Stop. Close your eyes. Listen.

Pay attention to the sounds. See if you can notice the moment a sound occurs. It’s not possible to block a sound, once it enters your awareness. It’s just there. A puff of wind in the trees. A dog barking. A noise from a car. You cannot choose to create these sounds. They simply appear in consciousness.

The same is true for your thoughts. They just simply appear, and then disappear.

How long can you hold onto a thought before it slips away and a new one enters your mind? Are you really “in control” of your thoughts?
