As much as think subscriptions are "great for the economy", I also believe anywhere there is a subscription, there should be a self hosted alternative where I set up another Raspi and don't pay dick.

We are not going to beat the current system with more subscription models. Just saying

Zapping and Nostr shit was born from value for value, which has competitive incentives to normieland

There are many good reasons to have recurring payments that don’t involve extractive SaaS (which is VERY much not what I’m talking about)

Your phone bill, or your patronage of some artist you appreciate, for example.
