That actually makes sense now that you put it that way. The thing is, it still goes against the "...without going through a financial institution" ethos.

I think I'm too autistic to invest in Strategy. Do they use multi-institutional custody or just trust Coinbase with SSS?

They don't publicise it afaik. But it's spread between a several different US based custodians. This unknown is one of the prices you pay for potential higher return than btc.
