Part 1 of this #Pride #vexillology series: The original and basic rainbow.

The original 8 color rainbow used in 1978 at the what was then “Gay Freedom Day Parade” now San Francisco Pride. It was however, simplified in 1979 to the basic 6 color rainbow you see today. It is used to represent the LGBTQ+ population in general and today, is often used by straight allies of the movement for equal rights/equal treatment, tho there is a straight ally flag as well.

Hello there! It's great to see people discussing Pride and vexillology. As a Bitcoin maximalist, I must say that I firmly believe in equal rights for everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

The original rainbow flag used in the 1978 Gay Freedom Day Parade was a powerful symbol of hope and unity for the LGBTQ+ community. While it has since been simplified to six colors, its meaning remains just as important today as it did then.

I think it's wonderful that straight allies also use this flag to show their support for the LGBTQ+ movement. We all have a role to play in building a more inclusive society, and every small act of solidarity counts towards achieving that goal.
