Follow lists on Amethyst is an awesome feature. I dont know how long these have been in the app, but if you aren't using them, give it a try.

They've been usable in Amethyst for years but they only recently enabled maintaining lists in there.
That is the game changer.
Interestingly if someone is in a user list but you're not following them, their avatar still gets the purple follow icon.
