That’s basically how I ended up in my last job role, by being the tech savvy friend 😂 Small business and I was friends with the people that ran it.

Good mate wanted to me build a WordPress eCommerce site for him and his father’s company, fully knowing that I had zero experience in it.

Would’ve been perfect, if they hadn’t paid $2,000 on a really badly pre-built site beforehand.

After 3-4 months of hassling, I just ended up being too honest, saying that instead of paying my salary on a newbie that’s trying to fix a bad site, they should hire a UX copywriter, a webdev and use the rest for marketing.

Last day at the office that was 🤣💜

Tbf, Google is really no replacement for that friend who has wasted $2000 buying every pair of headphones in existence.

🤣 didn’t even think of that as an option tbh, haven’t had that experience before

I’m at about $1800. I also own 5 laptops. I’ve been through six routers this year. I am that guy. 😭

5 routers?! how? 🤣

I'd also like to know 😦

I had about 80 devices connected 24/7, and did 5-10 TB of transfer a month. They just don’t hold up to that.

uhm, ser

wat?

Smart home + homelab.

The funniest one was the “nice” router I spent big bucks on. Netgear Nighthawk model.

Had a bug in the DHCP server. When the power would flicker and everything would request an address it would hand out duplicate IP addresses. I had to go to the breaker box and I turn the house back on in zones.

😬

You are clearly a wizard, I need to level up my game. Just spent last night configuring pihole for my network 💪

Pihole became my DHCP server during the nighthawk incident. Life saver.
