Can anyone offer guidance on buying land and living on it in a camper?

The goal would be to do this temporarily and eventually build a home on the land. The idea sounds great on paper but I can imagine that there is so much more to actually executing an idea like this.

Been thinking of doing the same. But the camper part is problematic for working from home. Started to just look for land with old houses that could eventually be torn down when a new house is built.

My wife has worked FT remote for over 3 years from our RV.

What do you use for reliable internet? Both my wife and I work remote and I have upload download of 20GB per day. And then we would have add home schooling connection.

We have used Starlink for the last 2 1/2 years

Sounds great, right!? It’s the execution of this idea and committing to a lifestyle change that may pose problems.

City laws prevent this. Can easily be done in the county. Buy the land that has road access, clear a home spot and driveway, set a well, set a sewage tank, put up a pole, get county to run electric, move camper on land, begin building home. This can be done by just you with no building permits or restriction if you live in certain counties in the south.

Good to know. Thanks for the overview! 🀝

Gee thanks Jim, "approachable" lol

these podcast guys get big heads, you, not so much. ;)

Definitely nothing to get a big head about here. Lol

I sold my homestead in MN and went FTRV for a few years. Now we are transitioning to an off grid property. Shoot me a message anytime.

Thank you! I will type up a message and send it to you later. 🀝

I’ve never done it but it sounds good to me! πŸ¦…πŸ§‘

I know, right!?

I have a friend who did this on his property for a few years with his wife and three kids. Was not a pleasant experience, and they had a pretty big 5th-wheel trailer.

How so?

1. If no RV hookups on the property, you will either need to take your trailer to a dumping station regularly or empty its black-water into a more portable tank even more regularly to take it to be dumped.

2. Without hookups you will also need to haul in your water.

3. Close proximity and small space can be rough for a family, especially if you have active youngin's and you ever want private time with your wife.

4. In our neck of the woods, it can get pretty cold in the winter, and trailers tend to build up moisture from condensation when it is cold.

These are just a few of the things I can think of off the top of my head.

Good things to note. Thanks! 🀝
