I don’t know. He says a lots of things.
Is he has time to get on the first potentially viable trip, chances are he’s not coming back. There will be many attempts to get back before a successful one actually happens.
Maybe that’s his sacrifice to humanity?

3.) We will never be a space faring civilization until we unite as one human race, and figure out a sustainable/renewable energy source
Idk why he is trying to run when he doesn't even know how to crawl. With all his money, there are several avenues he could take towards building to the future he wants to see, yet he insists on doing nothing for the betterment of future generations just so he can see part of his dream during his life time. Imo, if he really wanted the betterment of the human race, he would create an educational facility that teaches children to be autodidatic, so every future generation is curious about the world around them and constantly grows. Then one of them will have the ability to create what he wishes to see. Rn, if what he wants is made, how will the fragmented race we call humanity abuse it? What will be done with the technology? Can it really be called "betterment"?
