Are nix flakes always building from source or is downloading the executable ok?

i come from a background of ubuntu and arch, and i don't see the point of nix when there is aur

Nix might be a bit more universal and got quite some adoption in parts.

yeah, i haven't had the time to hax on arch lately... the most usual reason i go to arch is hardware support
