Yes, they banned alcohol nationwide in the usa from 1920 to 1933.

On a side note the government made it illegal to own gold from 1933 to 1974.

Because alcohol could be used as payment for good or services in this wild financial crisis time. Looks like we arrive slowly back in this time.
