My first exposure to Linux was 2016. I bought a used ThinkPad where the previous owner sent a fresh copy of Ububtu. My godmother didn't take the computer as intended, and it became my travel laptop until 2020. It's on the slow side now, but it definitely showed that Linux can be aesthetically appealing and functional for doing basic stuff like browsing websites.
