I used to be into real estate and the fire movement. I wanted to get enough rentals to have freedom to do what I enjoyed. I read Mr Money mustache a lot. Retire early! What’s not to love?

I had an open tab to his blog and saw this. He’s ngmi.

It’s always the same nocoiner normie bullshit examples. Lol.

💯

Met a couple that preached this, said they did it, and now they are able to travel and that I should follow their instagram… that was their full time job…

There insta was 100k of paid followers… no engagement… that’s my only story about “fire”

Yeah lots of scammers in real estate and fire movement. Here give me your money and I’ll show you how I’m able to retire early! Lol yeah by scamming people coming into the space!

Oof… sounds like multi level marketing… eww

What a badly misinformed article 😬

Yeah from 2018 too. He was fortunate enough to take advantage of the fiat system through the up only markets. He has big stock portfolio that he lives off of. I think he makes money other ways now but not a 9-5.

People that benefit the most from the current system don’t see a reason why we need a new one.

I understand people not “getting it” but when they write the overconfident, everyone-is-being-stupid, kind of article, it just strikes me as hubris and not a thoughtful critique

Yeah shouldn’t write know it all articles about topics you are not an expert in

💯

Thanks for sharing, I just read it and zapped you ⚡.

It is always a positive exercise to challenge one's views by looking at the other sides' arguments. His argument about cancer-curing pills is one I had not seen before. The funny thing is it was so poorly constructed that he did not realize Bitcoin is in fact the only pill that cures the cancer of lack of censorship-resistance, debasement, lack of privacy, lossy media of exchange full of greedy/malicious intermediaries, and lack of access to property rights for billions of people around the world. Had he realized that Bitcoin is the only pill that could cure that, its value would become readily obvious

Yeah it’s good to know your opponents argument better than they know it themselves.

mr money mustache is preaching to a choir of eager ppl who all know everything

just put your credit card 💳 into this form and for the low recurring price of $xxxx per year I’ll show you how to get rich buying residential real estate

yep

I know who’s getting rich

not the ones poking in their credit cards

the other guy

Yeah definitely lots of scammers to new people. It’s like that every where. Bitcoin has influencers that feed off the ignorance and try to pump their bags. Gotta be vigilant.

ngl had my first xposure to ‘crypto’ from a scammer selling investment advice

I had to learn the hard way that = only bitcoin matters

took a couple years

We all have that learning curve. I had my fair share of learning opportunities too. 🫡

I am sad to read this. My wife and I give credit to the FIRE movement (Financial Independence Retire Early) for its emphasis on reducing expenses and eliminating debt.

Without spending a dime to follow a guru we were able to "chunk" pay all our debt and eliminate twenty years of principal and interest payments in two years. It left us with an enviable amount of "disposable" income and because of our new innate, righteous hatred of the banking system led us straight into the arms of Bitcoin.

Mr. Mustache dismisses Bitcoin as having no intrinsic value, using his clipped fingernails as an equivalency. His distaste for Bitcoin is palpable. Bitcoin is anti-fragile and will face greater foes than Mr Mustache and his premise that we who believe in, buy, and hold Bitcoin are merely participating in a speculative game trying to someday sell off to a greater fool. I think sometimes influencers can be well intentioned but totally wrong.
