What happened to the Joule browser plugin?

Back in 2018 and 2019, Joule was a really big deal. Users could authenticate or sign up to websites using nothing but their Lightning nodes. It was also great for payments.

According to Michael Bunann, the project was unfortunately abandoned. However, his new project Alby integrates some of the same features.
