I did take the photo. Around 2005. It was on an small expedition ship to places at the Antarctic Peninsula (Lemaire channel, deception island, elephant island are a few places I saw). I believe it is the most northern part of Antarctica, indeed around 60degrees.

but the name "deception island" just tells the story, i guess 🤔

would like to see more independent exploration of this place

but i guess the penguins are blocking us all off

I can recommend reading ‘the worst journey in the world’ by Apsley Cherry-Garrard , a great book and first hand experience about Antartic exploration to the South Pole in 1910-1913 led by R.F. Scott. They lose the ‘race’ to be the first to reach the South Pole to Amundsen, but still, an incredible story, esp in those times.
