AUR and Arch forum is powerful but for most normies they may not want to compile from source. Too daunting of a task. Parabola was decent and Antergos before they dropped support. Easy to break Arch. Manjaro is a happy medium and ready to go out of the box with not as much bloat as Ubuntu.

Arch/Manjaro/Parabola or other libre options all decent. Just depends on your level and how deep you want to go down the rabbit hole.

Anything but Mac OSX or Windblows is fine :)

Gentoo also an option for the hardcore.

I also like the ARM support for raspberry Pi’s that Manjaro offers 🔥🔥

Although for Arch and Manjaro, the “compiling” is really happening in the background as part of the update. No actual manually triggered compiling. The Chaotic AUR is another option that installs binaries.

Thank you for your insight! Always trying to learn more. Have you ever tried Debian? Community was larger a few years back, I always read about Debian but never gave it a try.

Gonna have to install Arch again it’s been too long. Maybe I’ll give some other flavors a boot too.

I can't recall now whether I used true Debian or not. I did use Ubuntu way back in the day, that was of course derived from Debian. But I'm pretty settled now on Manjaro and am happy with it the last few years.
