In some cultures, the kids become lawyers and doctors bc their parents raised them with that expectation. This is true for my family (parents are Haitian). My parents tried to place that expectation on me, so when I joined the Navy, feathers were ruffled to say the least.

Speaking to family members that followed the rules ,(now in their 40 & 50's) they feel trapped.

I was 45 when I got my JD. Parents had given up on me well before that.

Why did I do it?! I became an empty nester and had free time. So it wasn't costing much in terms of time/money.

Still haven't found the motivation to prepare and take the Bar.
