Places to visit: Drink coca leaf tea in Cajamarca. Cuzco, Trujillo and Chiclayo. If you stay in Lima, I'd recommend Mira Flores district. If you go to Machu Picchu, make sure you wake up early enough to catch the bus from Aguas Calientes to the top or you'll get there much later than you intend. Eat the cuy. Eat the ceviche. Lima smells like pollution and fish so limit your time there.

Peru is fantastic, you have beach, mountains and the amazon. So start with Lima and enjoy the great peruvian food, it's the best you can find in Latin America. One of the best restaurants in the world are actually in Lima, try to get reservation in Virgilio Martinez "Central". Then visit Cusco and Machu Picchu or try to make the Inca Trail (3 day hike). A must imho is taking the Bus from Cusco to Puno to Lake Titicaca, visit the Uros People on their swimming islands.

BTC is not much of a thing yet in Peru, there are a few BTC ATMs in Lima though. I didn't find any merchant latetly that accepted it. This is probably because Peru has a pretty stable fiat currency PEN (Nuevo Sol) and inflation is similar to ours. Cards are accepted almost everywhere, of course always have cash as taxi drivers and the merchants on the street and markets want cash unless you book an Uber to get around in Lima! Euros and Dollars are also accepted if you run out of local currency cash.
