I've tried it. It's only going to work with heads of garlic that have huge cloves. Like elephant garlic.

I didn't try it with small ones, just the large ones
I will probaby try it for fun. both sizes. My favorite trick is ripping open a pepper in half and easily removing the insides. Also just ripped open an apple with my nephew the other day. right in the middle. that was harder than the pepper, but nature made some fun tricks.
