For something to be property, it has to have a boundary. On this side it’s mine, on the other side it’s not.

For information to be property—so called “intellectual property”—it too must have a boundary. A secret meets this criteria. The boundary is your head. But any shared information is like gas vented into the atmosphere. It has returned to nature.

Yes and encrypted data. But if someone decides to unencrypt and share it, you don’t own it anymore.
