As the son of a recently retired, solo family dentist, I saw how much blood, sweat, and tears went into building up his own practice over decades, the sacrifices he made, and how hard it was to let go of it when he finally retired.

Starting that journey myself in a small private ophthalmology practice here in Texas, I have so much hope for what is possible in the future (& maybe an eye clinic down in El Zonte)! Oh this is so sweet and I didn’t know your dad was a dentist! Thank you.

I fear that dentistry and veterinary medicine are going the way of optometry and the days of the solo practitioner are coming to a close. It makes me sad.

I had no idea there was consolidation going on. Both my dentist and my optometrist are solo practitioners.
