Discussion
I assume a plane flew over and connected is all for a short while.
I experienced something similar like a week ago. I just assumed someone bought a weather balloon and tied a meshtastic to it. Seemed like a meshtastic thing to do 🤷
... It was noteworthy because I otherwise have no other connections where I'm at. Was hoping MQTT would help me get more experience even if it's not real meshtastic comms, but sadly no luck.
Hot nodes in your area?
The hot nodes seem to come and go, never any responses 😩
I used a tool last week to figure out my locations range of line of sight.
realized that i basically live in a valley.
and now i understand why i cant find any nodes although the area has plenty.
I've seen over 100 nodes but only talk to the guy that loves 1/4 away from me. Every once in a while someone flys over and sends a message.
flybys are great. yet to get connected to someone from the airport nearby.

That on MQTT right? this is 100s of miles away.
Nope. I have that disabled. Signals seem to bounce around the ionosphere and via mountain tops.
Impressive.
Check Settings > Channels and see if Uplink/Downlink is enabled.
I dont think LoRa has the ability to bounce this far.
The other possiblity is that someone near you has MQTT on, and these folks you see on the map are being broadcasted by that nearby node.
just a theory really nostr:npub160t5zfxalddaccdc7xx30sentwa5lrr3rq4rtm38x99ynf8t0vwsvzyjc9 maybe knows.
If it was MQTT they'd be active and I'd be able to get nice information from them right? They show up randomly every few days as active. I've specifically had dudes say hello from 34000 feet in route to Newark and as that message comes through a few other nodes appear from hundreds of miles away.
