It is peer to peer, but there's no torrents involved. I don't know what it is about that network, but it's kind of flown under the radar for years. Been around for quite a long time. I'm not quite sure it was around when lime wire was around, but damn close.
And yeah, it's pretty much just all audio. I've found some audio books on there, but I mostly use it for music.
And it still works now ?

I use it weakly and almost never have a hard time finding anything.
Just make sure your VPN is up before you turn it on or if you have a always on machine with a VPN then you can let it run in the background.

Also, one of the cool things about the network is you can do what's called a wishlist search, which if say you can't find something, for instance, if you put it in a wishlist search, it will constantly query your peers to see if that track shows up, and if it does show up, it'll notify you.

Okay, I've never looked at how It did indexing. It would be interesting to see that be done over nostr.
We do have nostr's dtan.xyz and the nostrudel torrent function 💪
But soulseek has that really cool ability to just select a folder and share all files in it instead of going torrent by torrent
