They never wanted to take out Zelensky. That's not their objective. Neither is it to take over Ukraine. Are you aware ever since the US 2014 coup in Kiev the Ukrainian government has been literally bombing the Donbass region because they didn't accept the new government? Most living there where from Russian descent. Western Ukraine is mostly Hungarian people. Remember MH-17 was shot down in the middle of all that? Dictator Zelensky even wanted to ban the Russian language.
