LOL I'm a Senior sysAdmin/architect. I hear you! I'm not really a dev yet but want to get into it due to Bitcoin and Lightning, so I did this. But due to my skillset I'm good at finding out the minimal amount of custom work and using whats already there. I'll likely open source eventually.
