We used some chemical fertilizer as well as calcium.

We also heavily foliar fertilized with a liquid organic fish, kelp, blood meal blend. Ours too wasn't great the first year.

It got better last year and this year seems to be improving as well.

This is a long term process.

Yes! I forgot about calcium. I asked a question about my strawberries on another note and somebody said they looked calcium deficient.

I had a winter cover crop that included peas to fix some nitrogen and I let my chickens kill the cover crop in March. I thought that between peas fixing nitrogen and chickens pooping in the garden for a couple weeks that would give me enough nitrogen, but I guess I was wrong.

I’ve got some eggshell soaking in vinegar I’m going to add as a calcium supplement. I think I’ll add some blood meal for nitrogen and iron boost. Thanks for the reply and the help.
