The hero having an unsatisfying home life makes sense as a motivation for him to hang out with certain weirdo outsiders (like Brown) and setting out on a potentially dangerous journey.

Also, the McFly family cleans up very nicely after Marty changes the past, so it's not like they're all Born Losers.
