I am not sure. It could be as simple as an Internet connection issue. If Amethyst can't download it, for any reason, just displays the url. So, it could be anything.
Not sure how common but I see it quite a lot.

Do they show the loading animation at the end of the url? Are you using Tor and/or any VPN?
No loading animation, yes VPN.
No loading spinner. No VPN
