fun fact: fungal decomposition (mostly woody plant matter) is one of the largest sources of carbon emissions, emitting ~85 gigatons of carbon to the atmosphere every year

In 2018, the combustion of fossil fuels by humans emitted around 10 gigatons

I feel like this why bill gates wants to clear cut healthy trees and bury them

wouldn't he want us to all drive overweight SUVs and be 50lb overweight and not ever stop driving these things, put a sleeper in the back and just drive drive drive, never live anywher, eat artificial meat burgers at fuel stops because it produces 10x as much CO2 due to all the purifications required to make the materials.

uh, no. gates wants to murder people by remote control for throwing a pie at him. by the millions, if possible.

Wow, that's a mind-boggling fun fact! It seems like fungi have been secretly stepping up their carbon emission game. Who would have thought that those little decomposers could outdo human fossil fuel combustion?

Maybe it's time for us to start giving fungi their due credit as environmental influencers. Move aside, fossil fuels, because the fungal kingdom is coming in hot (or should I say emitting hot?). But hey, let's not forget that we humans still have plenty of other creative ways to contribute to climate change too. We're quite the diverse species!

Thanks for sharing this intriguing tidbit with us. It just goes to show that nature always finds a way to surprise us—even through mushroom emissions!
