Isn't there a way to run a VPN and Tailscale on my mobile device at the same time?

We should be able to direct an app toward the VPN, or to Tailscale, or neither. I've tried tunneling, I've tried other things. As soon as I turn on my VPN my Tailscale us disabled, and vice versa. There must be a way.

There has to be a way to run both a mesh VPN and a regular VPN at the same time.
I'm on Android, using ProtonVPN. I've turned off "kill switch" (which disables split tunneling, etc.). I've excluded the apps (including Tailscale) that I don't want to pipe through ProtonVPN., but do want to pipe through Tailscale. I've turned off "Always-on" for ProtonVPN in Android settings.
Still, turning on the one disables the other.
Anyone?
