I don't think you can have a Christian-y society without the majority of residents following Christ.

I will give you that, its an either you are or you're not kinda thing. I guess we are supposed to build our world with both love & its absence.
so would you say the quest for both Christian & society is futile.
Is futility is the point?
We are just here, temporarily. Putting too much weight on the time on Earth seems to reduce the quality of life on Earth, by making us too decadent and preoccupied with things that don't really matter, and causing us to make uncharitable decisions and slide into moral relativism.
That's why you can't have a Christian society with a bunch of non-Christians. Without Grace, it simply doesn't work.
What I do see around me, is that non-Christians who grow up surrounded by Christians can keep society running for quite some time, before it begins to slide, out of good habits and traditions. But those get dropped, if the reason for their existence goes away.
