Watched Black Death (2010), a horror/historical drama directed by Christopher Smith. The plot takes place during the first epidemic of the bubonic plague in 1348. We follow a young monk who guides a group of heroic knights to a remote village that is apparently immune to the plague. The knights want to kill the necromancer who brings back the dead to life in that village, since this goes against the church. As they travel deeper into the swamp, they find a sanctuary where their faith is put to the test by a pagan cult leader. I really enjoyed this one. The casting is excellent: a few actors from Game of Thrones are present. Sean Bean (Eddard Starck) plays one of the knights and Carice Van Houten (Melisandre) plays the cult leader. The movie has medieval action scenes, brutal horror with the plague and necromancy and an interesting historical setting. It also has themes of religious extremism/fanaticism, fear/manipulation, faith vs reason and grief/vengeance. Plot wasn’t overly complicated and straight to the point. 8.5/10 #nodereviews
