I’m a fiat-poor node virgin.

Want to fix that! Have a donated desktop computer from a friend.

I think worst-case scenario, I may need to upgrade the hard drive.

Haven’t thought too deeply, but leaning towards start9 or parmanode.

Thoughts?

I don’t do many transactions, this is more about learning by doing, walking the walk, and supporting the network.

I want to play with running a NOSTR relay for similar reasons, makes me think start9.

I skipped the desktop node and went straight to start9 - no regrets. Its a fantastic device. I recommend building it yourself - they have a great guide on their wensite, and it was my first electronics project, and I think it was probably the best possible introduction to building electronics. Its also much cheaper to build. And now that we have nostr, this is a great place to ask questions if you get stuck.

Or... Go to bitcoin.org and download bitcoin core for desktop. And I just found out that amethyst automatically adds thumbnails for .org stuff. Neat.
