Someone should build a gif / meme database that clients can just pull from via UI.

I really don’t think it matters if our access to memes is censorship-resistant.

WDYT?

Freerse has memes but come from a third party

Don’t think I saw any when I tested.

Hmm, could be thinking a different one 🤔

They added it very recently

Oh, ok. Thanks

The images need to be labeled. Could possibly use Stakwork to do that.

Not sure what you mean.

The images need to be labeled/tagged so people can search for what they want

They already are 😉

How?

Few

That would be cool! Some times ago I tried to label my meme collection using an OCR but was a failure. Any idea on some tool that could help with this?

If you had a bulk upload client, you could just do it on one screen manually. Shouldn’t take too long unless you have hundreds of memes.

Google has an API to do it. Could also use a service like Stakwork. Both cost money. Not aware of any free tools.

I'd prefer having a self hosted solution. I'm pretty sure there is some good tool to read meme captions with a decent accuracy. I'm going to make a second round of searching for this very important task 🙂

yes would be awesome

i think there was a client that had such ui

cant recall the name nostr:npub13a9prrjj2u730svh79rqhedpd6u5ydstdla8gv2mlnkna7tz4pgsyzf2f7 u would know

i have thought of this. if one can collect memes and gif links for media with ALT text, we can have a collection where one can add a gif they are searching for by typing relevant text , and a number of already posted memes/gif on nostr can come up and they can paste the link - of course by clicking the meme/gif they want... this way we can save much storage by reusing links instead of uploading media over and over again . . . i have personally started doing this with gifs (since i am no memelord) once i use a gif i love, i write down link to that specific gif, and delete on my devices since next time ill only use the link whenever i need that gif

I’m working on something similar, it’s a more general purpose research tool, but I would like it to be a power tool for meme lords

Freerse has a function to add your favorite GIFs from local storage. Currently, users can only store their favorite GIFs and memes locally and then upload them to the GIF collection. This way, users can retrieve and use GIFs at any time when posting, replying to posts, and DMing, without having to upload them repeatedly. We hope to provide a GIF collection for users to add directly. #[2] #[3] seems to be preparing a GIF search collection.

I guess it’s somewhat useful. Any plans for an integrated gif library?

We have plans to make a collection of GIFs that have been published on nostr. But the problem is that these GIFs are URLs and cannot be searched. #[4] seems to be trying to annotate them through AI.
