Are you running on a Raspberry Pi? You could try Start 9 https://start9.com. It’s not as user friendly as Umbrel, but is a very solid node. If you want the combo node / home server packages, Umbrel is probably best. Citadel is remaining open source which is great, however I believe the development is being done by one guy in his spare time. Without financial support, the progress will likely be slow.

Start9 seems like a great solution for everything BUT Bitcoin. Hosting your photos, passwords, VPN, on the same device as your self-sovereign money is a terrible idea.

I agree and maintain several nodes, but I’ve found that loading up noobs with too many requirements / purity tests stops many before they start.

Agree, but I’d prefer to recommend ppl run a Bitcoin node OR a general purpose self hosted server. These should never be the same imo

I have recently had a look at Start9 but I don’t think I want the ā€˜home server’ kinda feel…

I am running a Raspberry Pi with 1TB of storage but it’s already used over 600BG… so I’m thinking of upgrading that to 2TB and while I’m at it, switching to another node software… I started off with myNode with the Premium access which was great, just a little boring but migrated to Umbrel purely because it was good looking and simple, then moved to Citadel for the open source and because of the fact that Umbrel was adding so many other apps etc I found it was going clunky… Now that’s how I’m feeling about Citadel… I feel like I’m in hit of a kuffuffle

I only use it for Bitcoin as of now. Keep it very simple. If I expand I would definitely build out another one.
