Antim the Ivirian, a Georgian, was enslaved and later freed in Constantinople. Despite hardship, he mastered languages and became a renowned calligrapher and wood carver. Elevated to Metropolitan of Wallachia, he championed Romanian literacy, establishing the first printing press and publishing numerous books in Romanian, Greek, and Slavonic. His reforms angered local nobles, leading to his unjust deposition and exile. In 1716, he was murdered by soldiers while being taken to exile.

Holy Hieromartyr Antim, pray to God for us!
