Do I understand the mechanics?
Sell your BTC purchased above 100k. Buy back BTC below 100k.
Outcome: Lower your cost basis. Same BTC as before minus fee from River? What is the fee to buy and sell on River?Does it settle fast enough on River to make this wash trade at the same time?
That’s correct. Only other thing to keep into consideration is price slippage between buy and sell side on river. You’re not buying or selling exactly at spot so even if the transaction was instant, you’d still probably get less bitcoin. Your realized loss has the big enough to justify something like that.
I actually ran the numbers again and chose not to wash. Math probably makes sense for me somewhere around 80k.
